Quiet Times

Quiet times are not always easy with young children.
My ideal of a quiet time is getting "alone" with the Lord for an extended period of time.
This is not always able to be the situation with young children.

The idea of a personal quiet time often feels impossible to moms. How can we carve out daily time to be with the Lord when we can’t even go to the bathroom by ourselves?

When I attend conferences or retreats where personal quiet time is emphasized, I conjure visions of myself sitting serenely with my Bible open for hours and make personal resolutions that “I WILL find more time to pray and read my Bible.”

Then . . . life hits. My children wake up hungry or cranky or sick. Kool-Aid gets spilled on my Bible or I rush through the day without finding time to pray anything more than, “Jesus, help me to survive!”

Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating. There are times when I manage to carve out a niche of time to pray and read the Bible, and I’ve seen what a difference it makes. But it’s just a plain ole’ fact of life that during this season when I am home with small children, personal growth of any kind—including spiritual growth—is tough and requires attention and tenacity on my part.

A couple months ago, I wrote a post about Susannah Wesley. That girl certainly knew plenty about the demands of motherhood—she had ninteen children! I doubt Susannah had the luxury of personal space or long, lingering quiet times with the Lord. But, Susannah knew better than to try to mother in her own strength. When she needed time alone, Susannah was known to pull her apron over her head. It was her clear cue to her children to “leave mom alone.” Susannah wasn’t hiding under her smock for “me time,” she ducked and covered to pray for herself and her family. Those prayers, uttered in desperation under an apron, bore fruit in the lives of her children and multiplied to impact millions.

God’s Word never mandates that we spend an hour every day reading our Bible, praying, and journaling the Psalms. Here’s what the Bible does say:

“Be still and know that I am God.” (Ps. 46:10)
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Ps. 1:2)
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matt. 6:33)

Be still . . .
Meditate on His law . . .
Seek God’s Kingdom first . . .

These instructions are critical, even for busy moms. It will take effort, but it’s so important that we find ways to be still and pursue God amidst the chaos of our day. Here are seven tips to grab quiet moments with the Lord as you mother:

Read a Proverb a day – Thirty-one Proverbs, thirty-one days in most months. Every day, read the Proverb that corresponds to the date on the calendar. This exercise should take you less than ten minutes a day.

Maximize meal times – Bring your Bible to the breakfast table and read out loud or quietly to yourself. Or, replace a routine prayer by asking each family member to recite a Bible verse.

Prayer walk – Kiddos love to take walks. Plop them in the stroller or bundle them up and let them walk beside you and use the time when you’re walking to pray for your neighbors and family.

Create a signal – Create a signal that shows your kids, “mommy is praying right now, she will attend to you soon.” You could hang a sign on your bedroom door, pick a prayer spot in your house, or follow Susannah’s example and just throw an apron over your head.

Delegate – I know we moms tend to like to do things ourselves, but the bottom line is that prayer and Bible study matter more than loading the dishwasher yourself. Is there one chore a week you could delegate to your family members? Replace that chore this week with prayer or Bible study.

Get technical – Technology has its perks. One that I am loving is the ability to load my Bible right onto my smartphone or Kindle for easy reading anywhere. Download a favorite version of the Bible and read up while you are waiting at doctor’s appointments, the carpool line, or outside your child’s classroom.

Make it happen – There will always be things to do. Your children are never going to say, “You go read your Bible, Mom, we can handle things for a while.” But they need you to be connected to the Vine just as much as you do. So, put them in a room with some safe toys (or in their crib if they are babies) and say, “Mommy will be back in ten minutes.” Then, go spend time with Jesus.

The little years won’t last forever. Which means, eventually we will have more time for personal quiet time. In the meantime, we must fit the practices of being still, learning God’s Word, and seeking Him first into the nooks and crannies of our day. It may not look like having an hour-long Bible study while sipping from a steaming cup of coffee. But daily time with the Lord can happen, even if you must duck and cover under your apron.

Through nurturing andspecial care for the young boys handicap, he hones the boys pitchingtalents into a powerful ability to pitch for his baseball team. Aseveryone on the team learns to adjust to his needs, they soon buildan unstoppable team based on their loyalty and commitment to eachother.

Despite the objectionsfrom his parents and betrayal by a jealous team mate, love shinesthrough and his overly skeptical father finally gives his son thechance to prove himself and their relationship deepens as a result.

This movie was a perfectexample of learning to understand the challenges that others face andbuilding relationships from it.

Dislike:

The only thing that Ipersonally did not like in this movie is that the ball players have aparty and also the one ball player telling the Main character that hewould show him how to be a “player.”

Thanksgiving

I was talking to my children this morning about being Thankful.

At first they were silly saying funny things.

My first instinct was to get upset and be like "common guys we are to be Thankful."

It would have been easy to be Ungrateful even during a time of giving Thanks.

This is so much how things are all around us.

It is all about me me me.

I heard a comment this morning "What if God only gave us what we Thank Him for? Would we be very Blessed?"

It made me really think I need to be so much more Grateful than I am.

I need to be Grateful for all the Blessings God has given me.

The Lord quickly changed my heart attitude today to one of Thanksgiving.

I think it so important for us to live out Thankfulness before our Children.

I am learning that if I are Thankful it is harder to Complain.

This movie airs on NBC Friday, December 2nd 8/7c.

Thismovie was captivating from the beginning. Three key elements reallycaught my attention as I was pulled into the story. The computertechnology and the many phases of creation involved in graphics andgaming was easy to relate to since our social world revolves aroundvirtual platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and numerous otherforms of networking. Throughout this movie, all the characters werefaced with many choices that would affect not only their own futures,but the futures of the people around them. This was especiallyemphasized through the leading character as he faced and madedecisions concerning the future of his home life, his school teammates, and people with great influence that he crosses paths with. The final element of this movie is the close relationship the leadingcharacter holds with his widowed father. The bond they share isawesome and reminds us of the value of family, trust, and loyalty ina society that is filled with broken homes and relationships thatmost have come to rationalize as a normal thing. I was entertainedthroughout this movie as I watched these many aspects come to lifeand the end result is a collaboration of friendship and loyalty.

Note: This review was wrote by my husband. While watching this movie I was reminded of how computer savvy I am not. I did not feel like I could give it a fair review so my husband so graciously agreed.

I had the privilege to review
Gather the Family

a Franklin Springs Film.

I appreciated this film so much. My husband and I try to have Family Worship with our family several times a week. Coming from Families that did not make a practice of doing a Family Worship time it has not always been easy to be consistent.

This Film is like a breath of fresh air.

The encouragement, determination and consistency it shows is so valuable.

It was so great seeing other families from around the country who have taken their God given Parental responsibilities seriously.

I appreciate the openness and transparency that the participants in these families showed. They are not perfect they are Believers striving to live their lives to Glorify God.

They are doing their best to lead their families in the ways of the Lord.

Franklin Mills did a Super job making this film.

I recommend this to everyone.

Christmas Lodge DVD Giveaway and Review

My Husband and I usually don't let our children see a movie unless we see it first so

we enjoyed watching this movie together.

It made for a nice date night.

We both enjoyed this movie very much and plan to have a family night and watch this again soon with our children.

We laughed and got teary as well.

This is a great family movie that I am thinking will become a family favorite Christmas Movie in our home.

What I Appreciated:

Scenery was beautiful. Actors did very well.

Great Family Film.

I loved this movie and will watch it again.

What I did not appreciate:

The only thing I really questioned what the way they talked about their Grandmother that had died.

As well as my personal issues in woman dressing modestly.

Don't get me wrong the woman were not showing too much skin just I thought some of the clothing were too tight. (This is just a personal issue)

Revolution Worship CD Giveaway and Review

I had the opportunity to review the new Revolution Worship Album.

There are several different styles of songs on this album.

It being a live CD gives you a sense of worship.

Several of the songs I really appreciated.

I wanted to worship the Lord and Lift Him up.

He is so worthy to be Praised and Adored.

Some of the songs were a little more upbeat than I prefer in my taste of Music but most of the songs I really enjoyed.

Serve in Love

I have been reading in Galatians and this morning in my quiet time I was convicted that I needed to serve more in Love.

Galatians 5:13 the end part tells us to "serve one another in Love."

This is something I fall short of and need to work on.

So many times it is easy to do what I have to do because it needs to be done but I don't do it because I love my family and I want to serve them in Love.

It is so easy do what I have to do but do it with a grumbling heart.

Lord help me to serve in Love.

Help me to serve my family with Love today, to do thing things I have to do out of love and not out of the wrong motives.

Help me to be an example of you to my children.

Let all that you do be done in Love.

This movie opens in Theatre's in October 21, 2011

I was asked to review this movie and give it an honest review.

A little about the movie:

It's 1971. Cathy Rush is a woman ahead of her time ... and she's about to embark on an adventure for the ages. A new era is dawning in the country and in collegiate athletics, where a national champion will be crowned for the first time in women's basketball.
In the lead up to this historical season, major universities are preparing their game plans to win that first title. Meanwhile a tiny all-women's Catholic college in Philadelphia has a more modest goal: find a coach before the season begins. Providentially, Cathy Rush is about to find Immaculata College.
Recently married, Cathy is dealing with the aftermath of a truncated playing career. While cultural norms would have her staying at home, she's willing to do the hard work necessary to help her new team reach their goals—or perhaps she's just trying to achieve her unfulfilled dreams through them.
From the beginning, her challenges are as imposing as the big-school teams Immaculata will face on the court. Cathy learns there is no gymnasium on campus, she receives little support from the school's Mother Superior, and the school is in dire financial straits. To top it off, she may not even have enough players to field a team!
While it appears the Macs don't have a prayer, all hope is not lost. With the help of Sister Sunday—a spunky assistant coach—and the support of a booster club of elderly nuns, Coach Rush creates a new game plan that just might bring the team—and the school—together.
Will this pioneer buck cultural norms and spur her rag-tag team to unexpected heights? Or will her hard-driving ways create a wedge between the coach and everyone around her? One thing's for certain: there's never been anyone like Cathy Rush at Immaculata!

Things I appreciate about this Movie:

No foul language

Did not make Nuns look Bad.

The one player who's family was not a well to do family was very appreciative and respectful to others as well as her mother.

My Personal Opinion about this movie:

There was several things in this movie that I did not appreciate.

There were several times where drinking took place. One time was with the coach and her assistant (a nun) in a bar drinking beers. There was also another time where the coach celebrated with her husband with a drink.

As well as there were references of the Holy Mother playing poker.

There was one time where the asst coach a Nun lied to help the coach keep her job.

There were several comments of Religions References in this movie that were not appreciated and were offencive to me.

My husband said this movie should have been rated PG not G.

I think there is a lot of things in this movie that are not good examples to small children and we try to be very careful what things we allow my children to be influenced by.

Focus on the Big Picture

When opening a box of a puzzle and looking at all the pieces I would think it is hard to believe that ALL these pieces could end up to look like the beautiful picture that is on the lid of the box.

There are so many pieces and in so many shapes how can all this make any sense at all.

As we are putting the puzzle together we need to keep looking back at the lid because it shows us what the puzzle is to look like.

Looking at the pieces and details of my life sometimes it reminds be of a puzzle with all the many pieces in so many shapes and with no rhyme or reason to it by itself.

God has given us a Bigger picture of what we are to look at and model ourselves after that is His Son Jesus.

Jesus shows is a perfect reflection of The Father.

He is the example we are to pattern our lives after.

We need to constantly be looking at Jesus the Bigger Picture of what the puzzle of our lives need to look like.

He is the only thing that will bring rhyme and reason to all the details.

He is the only Big Picture that I want to be looking at as I assemble the pieces of my life with His help.
Jesus I give you all the pieces of my life please help me to always look to you as my model and see you as the Bigger Picture.

Heroes and Villians of the Bible - Book Review

When I got this book I did not know what to expect but I am delighted with this book and the contents it has. The books is about teaching children to be a Hero for God as well as to warn them about the villains tricks.

This book has a lot of scripture from the International Children's Bible.

I love this quote from the Introduction: "a hero isn’t about capes, or special powers, or being faster than a speeding bullet—it’s about choosing to follow God.

Book has 50 stories in it. Story is told right out of the Bible

Here is a quote that was at the end of one of the stories.

"A TRUE HERO HAS A THANKFUL HEART."

I would highly recommend this book. I think even adults can learn valuable lessons from this book.

Book Review - Thank you God...

Max Lucado's

Thank you, God, for blessing me is such a cute little board book for a little one.

When I got this I did not realize it was a small child's board book for some reason.

I thought my children would not enjoy it bit they did.

The book teaches children how to be grateful for what they see in nature and all around them.

This book is a part of Max Lucado's Hermie series but is its own story by itself.

This book is written in a rhyme but is easy to follow.

The pictures are cute and colorful.

This book would be a great gift for a small child.

Note: I received this book from Thomas Nelson for a review of my honest oppinion.

Praying the Bible For Your Children

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

When I feel tense and short-tempered, help me to take a deep breath and remember that love is patient (v. 4).

When I am wrapped up in my own to-do lists, remind me to take time to pay attention and be kind to my children (v. 4).

When I am tempted to compare my kids with other people's kids, help me to remember that genuine love doesn't express itself through envying - or boasting, either (v. 4).

When I discipline or reprimand my kids, help me to check my tone of voice and expression, remembering that love is not rude (v. 5).

When my kids argue, beg, or whine, remind me that love is always slow to anger (v. 5).

When I'm at my wit's end and tempted to give my kids a quick rundown of all the things they've done wrong in the past few days to bring me to this point, remind me that love doesn't keep a record of wrongs (v. 5).

When I feel twinges of smugness about another parent's failures, remind me that love doesn't rejoice over bad news but when good happens (v. 6).

When I'm ready to take a foolish risk with my children's safety because I'm too distracted or too tired to insist on precautions, remind me that love always protects (v. 7).

When I'm reluctant to let my child take on challenges he seems ready for, remind me to trust You and what You're doing in my child (v. 7).

When I'm discouraged about my child's progress in a certain area, remind me that love always hopes, even in the face of setbacks (v. 7).

When I'm tired and feeling like I just can't parent well, remind me that love never gives up (v. 7).

How I thank You, Lord, for the power of love in action. Thank You that if I parent with love and by the power of Your Spirit, I cannot fail (v. 8).

Motherhood A Calling

Mothers, do you ever look at Motherhood as a calling?

It is not something we are to just do, we need to Embrace it and serve with JOY!

God has called us to Raise our Children for Him and for His Glory.

Eph 6:4 tells us to

"Bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."

I asked my Husband about the word Admonition and I heard my 5 year old Daughter call the word "Add a Mission."

I thought that was so appropriate.

Mothers we need to be on a "Mission" to train our Children for the Lord and to live for His Glory.

Living for the Glory of the Lord needs to be modelled by us for our children.

As Mother's we need to embrace our God Given Calling of Motherhood.

Another verse that comes to mind is one that I have taught my children to memorize and can be put to practice so many times over and over in Motherhood responsibilities is

Phil 2:14

"Do all things without complaining and disputing."

So many times I am so tempted to complain about my responsibilities this is something I need to work on constantly.

Our Children are entrusted to us by Him,

We need to take good care of them and raise them for Him.

Do we as Mothers truly embrace what we know to be God's established role for our lives?

This book is targeted toward children and youth. The book answers questions about Science and Evolution.

To accomplish this, Richards presents 16 chapters focused on basic science issues related to studying the origins of the earth, life, and humanity. He dedicates the last 4 chapters of the book to explaining his view of the Bible and commending the Bible as the starting point for knowledge and study.

Some topics covered in the book are asteroids, dinosaurs, and fossils.

At the end of each chapter there is 5 just for fun things to do.

Book is well worded as well as the Author don't just say take my word for it but encourages you to dig deeper and look things up on your own.

Another great aspect of this book is it is full of scriptuer verses as well as Science.

As the days are fastly approaching to start a new homeschool year I am starting to think more seriously about what we need to accomplish this year.

Living in an Eastern US state that needs to report to the school district once your child turns 8 years old I need to make sure I keep records about what we are doing in our homeschool.

I found this free Homeschool planner online and I thought I would share it with you.

I do not know how it compares to other ones but it looked to me to be nicely done.

I also took a little time and looked around her site she has a lot of other printables available as well, check it out.

I admit I am a little nervous about the reporting and the portfolio process.

Do you need to report to the school district if you homeschool.

What have you found helpful or benificial in this process?

In a world where everything seems to change from one time to the next the word you feel like you can't be certain in "things."

However, when I wake tomorrow morning I will be certain that God is steadfast He is a place of refuge.

I am not a coffee drinker I never cared for the bitter coffee taste. To me coffee is sharp and bitter, however if you make it into a cappuccino with sugar and cream I really love that.

Sometimes loving people is like this. Some people don't make it easy to love them. Like coffee they are sharp and bitter. These people put a bitter taste in your mouth. However with God we can put on love like the sugar and cream in a cup of coffee.

Just like it takes sugar and cream for me to enjoy the coffee I must have the love of God and put on sweetness in order to love others as we are commanded to.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

I will admit there are times when I have felt that way.

This past week has been one filled with a lot of trials.

I appreciate so much what God is doing in my heart and life.

Is adversity a bad thing? Can we learn from our adversity? These are the ideas in the book "The Blessing or Adversity" by Barry Black

Black shared stories in this book including a story about how he was chosen last and instead of feeling sorry for himself he purposed to better himself. He shares how he learned from his adversities. At the end of each chapter he has "An Action Plan." with ideas how to apply it. Black backs up his ideas with the Scripture.

We can choose to dwell in our adversity or learn and grow from them because things in life happen for a reason Romans 8:28.

A prayer for the overwhelmed

Do you ever feel overwhelmed?

These past 2 weeks have been super crazy busy we have had something going almost every day.

I think summer always seems busier than winter.

My to do list seems like it never ends (that is all the time thought not just summer).

I just feel like I never get everything done.

Dishes are always in the sink.

Laundry always in the basket.

And then there are Church activities, family outings, etc etc etc.

Are you like me do you overwhelmed sometimes?

Several days ago I came upon this prayer from Nancy Leigh DeMoss of Revive our Hearts.

"Father, I confess that I often fill my life with things that are earthly and temporal. I want to spend my life being and doing what is pleasing to You. May the things that matter most to You matter most to me. May Your Word be a light to show me Your agenda for each season of my life.

Help me to be sensitive to Your Spirit and to know what is on Your-to-do list for every day of my life. Please show me how to fulfill my distinctive calling and priorities, Give me the wisdom and courage to eliminate from my schedule any activities that are not Your will for me at this time. Help me to live my life in the light of eternity.

And may I be able to say at the end of my life, as Jesus did "I glorify you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do" (John 17:4). In Jesus' name. Amen."

I have made this a prayer of mine lately. On days when I feel so overwhelmed I am so glad I can talk to the Father about it.

This book is a collection of essays. Throughout Eileens life she experienced delays well as struggles. She is open with her life. She is a Pastors wife as well as a columnist as well as a professor.

When I seen this book I thought this looks like a good book. It may be just that if you want to read a book about delays in someones life. I was disappointed in this book personally I was hoping the author would talk more about running to God with the issues in her life.

I was also disappointed in reading some off colored words. Some people may not think they are bad words but they were words that I would not use.

This book was just not what I was expecting it to me.

Serve with Joy

I have recently been convicted that I need to have more Joy.

I will be the first to admit that sometimes it is so hard to be joyful amidst:

The never ending empty sink of dishes.

The never ending piles of dirty laundry.

Meals to cook.

Baths to give.

Floors to sweep.

etc etc etc.

It is so easy to look at all of this and get discouraged.

However, I am called to serve and not just serve but to serve with JOY.

Jesus was the perfect example of this.

He served with Joy.

^"even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Matthey 20":28

Lord help me to be an example of you and serve with joy.

As I am washing the dishes:

Thank you lord for providing the food I was able to serve my family.

As I am folding laundry:

Thank you Lord for (each child).

Thank you that we have good clothes that you provided.

etc etc etc.

My desire is that I would bring GLORY to my Lord in everything that I do.

That I would be an example to my children.

And that I would serve with Joy and be Joyful in everything I do.

I love the yester era dress and simpleness.

Things seem so much slower and less hectic then these current days do. Sometimes we long for the simpler times.
The problems of the past seem like they would be so much easier to deal with then our problems are today.
I have heard Grandparents, Great Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles tell stories of the past that seem so fascinating.
I have heard people say so many times that they miss the good old days.
When the pressures seem to be pressing in we sometimes ask ourselves, what happened?
How did I get to this place where I am at?

I myself have thought back to when I was a child and a youth remembering how life seemed easier. Things seemed so much cheaper, I did not have the responsibilities of finances etc. as well as the world seemed so much more innocent then it does now.

Sometimes the good old days seem better before we lost a loved one, lost a job, got sick...

We think we would love to go back to _______ .

However, no matter how fond that memory or time seemed we cannot go back.

Then I came upon this verse the other day.

Say not, "Why were the former days better than these?"

For it is not from wisdom that we ask this.

Ecclesiastes 7:10

We may not be able to change what is or has happened or the circumstances we are in but we can change the way we think about them.

If we compare then with now it is easier to remember the past as such a great or better time because our memory is selective.

When circumstances seem overwhelming instead of comparing it would be better to look upward instead of backwards and in the looking upward to God we can find HOPE in Him.

When we look to God and into His word we can realize that today is better than Yesterday.

After all God has brought us to where we are today.

And God is good ALL the time.

God has a purpose and a plan for everything.

Hope is not in the future nor is it lost in the past, True Hope can only be found in the Lord.

A Fathers approval

I have seen my children go way out of their norm just to do things that would please their Daddy.

I have seen my daughter glow when her Daddy calls her his "little girl."

I have seen my son choose to leave some free or play time he was having so that he could help his Dad do a job that was a lot harder and a lot less pleasent.

Just to be in his Daddy's presence and spend time with him was more important to him than the easy way out.

My children rejoice when they know that Daddy is home from work, it is like they are saying "Daddy is home and he will take care of us."

My children just love to have their dad give them a hug and and let them know he loves them.

A child needs their Fathers affirmation in their lives.

A mother is great for giving comfort, fixing boo boos and staying up all night with a sick child.

However, a child yearns for their Fathers approval.

They long to hear "great job" and see that smile of approval that only a Father can give.

Children want and need their Father to show them and tell them that He loves them.

As Christians we all long to please our Heavenly Father as well.

We strive to Glorify Him with our lives.

At the end of our earthly life our goal is to hear "Well done my good and faithful servant."

My hubby decided to take us out for an evening.

We did some shopping and then he took us out for Supper.

When we were just about done eating I noticed Alaina had 2 different shoes on.

I couldn't believe I did left her go all evening like that.

I usually try to make sure they look presentable before we leave.

It was one of those moments instead of getting upset I just had to laugh about it.

I took a picture so I can show her later.

The other crock is her brothers and was about 3 sized too big also they are both the same foot.

Roses and Teacups

I have a big light pink rose bush in my yard that has been here since my Great Grandmother lived here. I believe she originally planted it.

I love roses especially pink ones and I love tea.

So I thought it would be so cute to display some roses in the beautiful rose tea cup that I got for mothers day.

Just get out a pretty tea cup, put a little water in the bottom, cut some roses off put the roses in the tea cup with the water and set them on a beautiful doily on your table (or wherever you would like) as a lovely centerpiece.

I love making my home into a haven just adding little things like this addds so much beauty to my home. It does not have to cost much to add special touches to a home.

The Lord is so good to create such Beauty in Roses.

for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

I have been recently been convicted about contentment.

There is a situation we have been praying for for several years now.

God has not answered our prayers the way we have asked Him to.

This does not mean that He does not answer prayers just not the way we asked.

Sometimes God answers our prayers "wait" or even "no" and that can be so hard.

We live in a society that says I want it and I want it NOW.

It is so easy to trust God when you are up on the mountain and life is going easy. Sometimes though we are not on the mountain, sometimes we are down in the valley.

In the valley life don't look the same, things are harder.

If we trust God wherever we are in our lives we will know contentment weather times are easy or hard. God knows better then we do He made us and He can direct our lives better than we can.

We can find peace in Him during the HARD times because He is good and He has everything under His control.

Good times and hard times will come and go but contentment is available to all who are in Christ.

How to get rid of fruit flies

A fruit fly trap

With the spring and summer season comes fresh fruits and veggies I am always excited about.

However, I always seem to get fruit flies so I make a fruit fly trap.

It is not pretty by any means but it sure does the trick and gets rid of them.

You will need:

A quart canning jar with up to 1 inch of Apple Cider Vinegar

Several slices of bananas dropped into vinegar.

A funnel made out of a piece of paper I use printer paper because I want it to be stiff.

Put the funnel into the jar about an inch about the liquid in the bottom.

You don't want it to touch or get wet.

Let the paper funnel unroll a little to fit to the jar top.

Tape the funnel to the jar and there you have it.

I like to use packaging tape for a secure fit.

This is what I had in just a short time maybe line an hour later.

The fruit flies craw down the funnel but they cant find the opening to get back up.

I did not take a picture but by morning it was a lot fuller.

When you feel like the fruit flies are under control put the jar in the freezer to take care of the fruit flies and then you can use it all over again.

If you try this come back and tell me how it worked for you.

Funnix Math Program FREE!!!

I believe it was back in January Funnix offered their reading program for free and let me tell you it is great.
I was kind of getting tired of all the basic reading sounds over and over and then we got the program.

I love this. My 5 year old is really picking up reading since I started her on this, check it out here.

A Berry Sweet Treat

Patriotic Berries

Items needed:

Berries (cleaned)

White Chocolate

Blue Chocolate

Colored chocolates can be found at craft stores.

First dip Berry in melted white chocolate 2/3 to 3/4 of the way by holding the stem.

Cool until chocolate is totally set.

Dip the tip only of the Berry into the melted Blue chocolate.

Cool and keep cool until ready to serve.

I am sorry I have not been posting much lately this week has been an extremely busy one for our family.

We have also been having a lot of storms in our area.

Since Berry season is on its way in I thought I would share this seasonal smoothie recipe with you.

I love smoothies they make a great snack or even a meal.

They are very healthy and nutritious.

Berry Smoothie Recipe:

2/3 Cup Pineapple Juice

1 cup raspberries

12 strawberries

1/4 cup cranberries (op)

4 ice cubes

You can make it as above stated

or add:

Kefir or yogurt to taste

if you like a sweeter smoothie add:

A squirt of agave nectar of a spoon of honey.

Blend all in blender or I like the bullet for smoothies.

Enjoy

Just for the nutrition part:

Raspberries are good for Enhancing immunity, rich in potassium and niacin, contains iron and some vitamin c.

Strawberries are good for Antioxidants, antiviral, anticancer, effective against kidney stones, gout, arthritis, vitamin A, Vitamin C, and potassium.

Cranberries are good for treating urinary and bladder infections, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iodine and calcium. Cranberries can also prevent Kidney stones and deodorize urine.

Note: Not meant to treat or prevent. This is just some info I have researched and looked into this is what I came up with.

I like Chantel's books in that they the are inspiring and encouraging. Chantel herself lost a lot of weight like 200 lbs.

This book has a section on meal suggestions as well as a whole section on exercising and a picture for each example.

A lot of this book is on diet and exercise.

I like reading books like this not just for the inspiration and encouragement but the example she gives in that she lost a lot of wt. Herself but also that she has been able to keep it off.

Being around the Amish and getting to know some personally since I was a child I knew a lot about them but there were also a lot of things that I have been curious about.

When I seen this book come available I wanted to review it. This book is something that I really needed to read. Even in the economy like it is today people would still rather buy what they want then what they need.

Some of the things in this book:

There is a whole chapter about despoiling children that has a lot of great advice.

There is a lot mentioned about credit cards and not buying things you don't need

Shopping Second.

Buying in bulk.

And so much more.

Don't miss this book so much sound info. I am not saying that everything mentioned in this book is totally accurate because I don't know the Amish that good to say it is all for real.

I think there is something we can all learn from the Amish.

Storms, tornadoes, whatever may come God is still in control

We had several calls from relitves this evening that we were in the path of the Tornado warning.

Not having a TV we often don't know when things are happening.

My hubby kept an eye on the sky going in and out of the house.

One time he was out there quite a while when he came in he told us that we needed to go to the basement now.

The children were a little scared and I tried assuring them that God had everything under control and even if the tornado did come that it was God's will.

I know that there have been so many tornado's lately but God is still God and He has everything under His control.

The Bible says:

That God even notices if a sparrow falls.

Matthew 10:29

He will sure watch out for us.

I am amazed how that even in the storm how the Lord can give us His peace.

Thank you Lord for watching over us.

After the storm passed there was a beautful rainbow in the sky.

It was great to be able to use this as a God moment with my children.

God s good ALL the time.

Through storm or trial or whatever may come my way.

He is still God and he has EVERYTHING under His control.

Treatment for burns

Have you ever burned yourself cooking ot on a fire or somehow, and it just burned so bad the burn would not go away?

My mom got a nasty looking burn on her arm from her oven. She said it was very painful and tender as well.

I had remembered hearing that Lavender essential oil was great for burns and that it took the pain away.

I looked it up on one of my favorite research books Be Your Own Doctor, and sure enough Rachael Weaver recommended the same thing.

I had my mom put a few drops of the Lavender essential oil in her hand as well as I gave her a few drops of carrier oil because I did not want the oil to burn her more. Then rub oils on the burn that was on her other arm.

She said that the pain almost immediately subsided. We were both very surprised at the results.

The next day she told me that she couldn't believe how the pain was gone after just one treatment as well as how much the oil had dried up the blister stuff that was on her burn.

It still stayed some red for several days but the pain was gone.

The redness may have gone away quicker had she continued to apply the oil but she only did it one time.

I know burns can be painful so I will keep Lavender oil around just for that if nothing else.

Although hope none of us get a burn to experiment on.

There are also so many other benefits of Lavender oil as well.

Seeking after Righteousness

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after Righteousness, for they shall be filled.

Matthew 5:6

I heard an awesome message this morning on this verse.

I love hearing messages that challenge me and I get my toes stepped on.

I want to grow in my walk with the Lord.

Righteousness can only be found in Him.

The more we are satisified in him the more we will be dissatisfied with substitutes.

~ Your appetite will chenge as you seek after Righteousness.

Everything we do should be done for the Glory of the Lord.

~ This is something I need to work on more.

~ Do I do it all for His Glory?

Dishes, Laundry, Cleaning, Educating my children, etc?

What you read is what you will become.

Is seeking after Him a Priority to me?

I am what I eat, am I eating His Word?

I want more of His Righteousness in my Life I hunger so much for MORE of HIM.

Book Review - The Final Summit

The Final Summit by Andy Andrews

A quest to find the one principal that will save humanity.

This book is a sequel to an earlier book called “The Traveler's Gift”

I did not read the previous book but I understood that this book could be read by itself and that you did not need to read the first one.

Book is about a guy named David Ponder who was a wealthy business man and spent his money before he had it and lost everything. He had an opportunity to start over and then next time around he did not spend until he had the money to.

This book is an allegory filled with several history figures as well as the Angel Gabriel.

I did not personally enjoy this book very much but I will let you read it for yourself if you choose to.

Garlic Salve

Garlic Salve

Garlic has so many healing qualities to it. It is called a "Natural Antibiotic."

Here are just a few things garlic can help earaches, sore throat, infections, coughs and colds, bacteria infections, immune system, and many more.

This salve is great for both children and adults, it is easy to apply and can help greatly.

I decided to use this today because I have a really sick little boy who has really bad earache as well as fever etc He was really quite healthy this whole winter past but now he is not feeling well at all. It really makes me sad when my little ones get sick.

In a blender put:

1/3 cup of Coconut oil

2 Tablespoons of olive oil

8 cloves of pealed garlic (I crushed mine as well)

5 or so drops of lavender oil

an also add other essential oils of choice

However, if adding more essential oils you may want more garlic and or coconut oil to mild it out.

Recipe adapted from Be your own Doctor

Blend on high speed until liquefied. Strain through a fine sieve to catch any pieces.

Pour into a small glass jar (a baby food jar works great).

Refrigerate

This works great to apply EXTERNALLY to ears, neck, throat, chest, back (lung area), and the bottoms of feet.

Be careful when using on children if it causes a rash dilute with more coconut and or olive oil.

Some people have a sensitivity to garlic and are not able to use.

If you try this come back and let me know what you thought.

Book Review: Daddy Dates

Daddy Dates by Greg Wright

The road map for any dad to raise a strong and confident daughter.

I think that men need to help out other men be accountable to each other encourage each other exhort each other in the Lord.

I appreciate this book because I think that Greg took it to heart that Fathers should be a hero to their daughters. I just love to see when a daddy connects with his daughter, to me it is a picture of God and his children.

Greg does not come on like he has it all together he is learning as he goes trying to be the best Dad God has created him to be.

Greg gives stories about dates he had with his daughters as well as stories from their family life. He also gives ideas of dates that Fathers and Daughters can have together.

This book is an encouragement to Fathers to build a relationship with their daughters.

Joyful Children

Once in a great while we meet my brother Uncle Yawney instead of Johnny (as Josiah calls him) at a designated spot. They live about an hour and a half away and our children esp Alaina love playing with cousin Chloe. A short while back we decided to meet at a McDonald's so they could play indoors because it was still so cold here in the East. My children do not get to go to McDonald's very often so this was a treat.

I think the pictures will explain themselves.

Pretzel Braids

I thought I would share this today since today is considered National Pretzel Day.

It was noted that pretzles were originally shaped to represent a childs arms folded in prayer.

For these Pretzles I used a simular recipe to this Antie Ann Copycat Pretzel Recipe.

I did not type it all out because there are so many online for you to choose from.

Try replacing some of the flour with a healthier choice like wheat.

After the dough is made and ready to form:

Form a log

Cut the log into 3 pieces

Roll each piece out into a long snake like my children say.

We rolled them as long as the table.

Join them together at the top and start braiding.

This is the tricky part. It was easier with the second person helping.

Braid the whole thing.

Then cut them to the size pieces you would like dip them in the baking soda water and salt them.

I forgot to get a picture of this step.

Bake them then butter the tops while they are warm.

This is them cooling I did not bake them this close together.

They are super yummy warm or cold.

These are great served at a Dinner in place of dinner rolls.

Children really love them.

Can serve them with mustard or other dipping sauces if you like.

We made a double batch to take a basket to a party and have a few to eat as well.

I don't know if you are anything like me but somedays, no most days it is a struggle for me to keep my house clean. I know when my house is clean I am happier my children are more content and my dear husband is so pleased. Easter Basket Cupcakes

My children and I made these Easter Basket Cupcakes to share with some other children.

Make some cupcakes any kind will do.

Try my Healthy Chocolate ones.

Put icing (any kind or even just cool whip) on the cupcakes and then sprinkle with green colored sugar.

I used twizzlers string licorice I cut it in half and then pulled the strings apart by 3.
Leaving 3 together helped it stand up a little better.
It also worked better twist the licorice before putting it on.

I think they turned out really cute.

They are a little tricky to get them right but a fun project to do together.

My little one loves to cook as well. Last evening when I opened the microwave this is what I found.

I remember hearing about Corrie Ten Boom way back as a young child.

I remember her bravery and her testimony standing out.

I think it is so important to teach children about the real life Hero' not these made up cartoon ones that hold no value or meaning. In our home we are very careful what we allow our children to watch, read, listen to etc.

I love resource's like this that we can share together as a family.

I also remember as a child loving audio stories and I have found that now my children love them as well.

Many nights as they go to bed they ask to listen to a story.
